Ponderings of a Scientist

moderately useless musings on the World as I see it

Adventuring

We’ve had a busy September, below is a review.  Photographic accompaniments at henninger.shutterfly.com

We relandscaped the backyard, no more flagstone, now we have grass!

Addie and I had our first day apart, so I could go to a work meeting.

We hosted our second beer tasting.

We did plenty of walking in Portsmouth with Addie’s new super small umbrella stroller, and lots of trekking in college woods with Addie’s backpack -Zipy is totally excited that she is now big enough for it.

We watched the Portsmouth Criterium Bike Race

We went to the Cape via the Working Waterfront Festival in New Bedford

Addison grew like a weed and figured out a lot about the world (including how to time her crying to when I’m trying to post).

She now: grabs toys and transfers them between hands, eats her feet, sits with support, stomps her feet when standing with support, bends her knees under her when on her belly, drinks from sippy cups (I gave up on bottles) and plenty more.

Who wants to babysit?

For any of my readers who have tried to feed Addie (i.e. the Grandmothers and Jefe), you will be happy to note that I think I’ve found a work around to the bottle boycott.  Sippy cups!  I purchased sippy covers and handles that turn our bottles into sippy cups and so far so good.  She can drink from them and she doesn’t cry like with the bottle.  We just got the bottle converts yesterday, so it will take a few weeks to work her up to full meals and multiple meals in a row from the cup, but she drank one ounce yesterday and 1.5 ounces this am.

Also, as a means to entertain Addie last night while Zipy and I were attempting to eat dinner, I placed my glass of water to her lips and it turns out she can sip from a regular cup too and she likes it.  This all seems to bode well for the next courageous babysitter.  I don’t think you will have to deal with a hungry baby.

This also bodes well for my ability to partake in my own beer tasting party this Saturday.  Don’t forget Lambic Lunch at 12:30.

Free Cats

Category: Ponderings            Thursday, September 6, 2007 at 12:50 pm

Any one interested in one or two cute and only slightly unsociable cat(s).  One of our cats has taken to peeing on our new basement carpet and we can’t seem to figure out which one it is or get him/her to stop.  Apparently, the stress of the new baby in the house and a new carpet is too much for him or her.  Our vet suggests anti-anxiety meds.  which would be fine with me, but they won’t prescribed them without a complete medical examine, costing $100 bucks per cat.  I refuse to spend $200 bucks to find out my cats are medically fine, just terribly annoying, and then $50 more for the pills to make them happy.

So if anyone is looking for a pet, as long as you don’t have a new baby or carpet, I’m 90% sure he/she wouldn’t pee on your stuff.
