So what do you think about Second Life?

I just read an interesting artice in Wired about this virtual world, which I previous only had a novice understanding of.  I’m honestly torn as to whether it is a neat advance in our media driven, cyberinfrastructured culture (perhaps to be used for education among other things) or whether it is just a video game taking over people lives and allowing them to be more irresponsible with their money.  Thoughts?  Check out this blog for more info…

I think it has a lot to do with escapism. People can go into the virtual world and have a better chance at succeeding their than they may have in the real world because there is less competition and more resources. What they are succeeding at is anyone’s guess.

I don’t think it would make people more or less irresponsible with their money. Apparently some lady has made millions doing property speculation in Second Life.

I signed up for in a few months ago after a few friends had talked about it… Mostly out of curiosity sake. I logged in once, failed to see the point, and never logged in again…

Well, things they are a changing.

I get a mass email from teh bossman this afternoon saying that we may be doing some consulting work for Second Life and he wants to make sure we all have accounts are aquainted with the system.

I guess I’m going to have to actually use my account afterall.
