I was asked to write up something so Jefe would not have to look at himself when he visited the site. This confused me because I’ve become so reliant on Google reader that I almost never visit a site unless i know there’s an update. I think my mocking of him may have forced him to set one up. Plus the reader now (as of today) has a search feature! Now if only I remember what I was looking for…
Anywho, I’ve posted anything lately because I’ve been extremely busy with a new baby, new job (that I try not slack off at), updating a website, redoing our back yard (pictures later) and generally keeping busy. And for this reason, my post will be short. Remember there will be beer tasting soon! Lambic Lunch, or, more accurately, Brunch.
A lot of things may be about to happen in our lives but, right now, there is just a lot of waiting. Here is what has not happened:
- We have not had a baby.
- I have not gotten a new job.
Both of these things will be really cool when they happen, but in both cases (more so in the first) I am waiting on someone else! Silly babies. Silly me not applying for more jobs! I just had an interview, which I think went well and which I am interested in taking, but I’m trying to keep myself from getting too excited. It’s probably not going to happen.
In the last post I mentioned a beer tasting extravaganza. I’m thinking that the beginning of June will be the best time, as it will give the Scientist and the baby a chance to recover. I’ll try to keep everyone informed.
Also, feel free to notice that Dan has a new blog. Apparently, he needs to keep making new ones.
Check out what google just bought:

P.S. Anyone hungry for fried food?
It seems that the US Attorney thing is all over the news now a days, but I just read through a blog article that outlines our NH Attorney record. This is mostly focused on the Phone Jamming scandal from back in ‘04 and it is an interesting read. I’m sure the source is biased but do you think there is something here? I am still to ignorant of NH politics… maybe it is time to start reading a local newspaper (blah!). Is there actually a good NH newspaper? The NH Gazette, while entertaining, just isn’t enough.
Also, anyone else get annoyed by the daylight savings time change? I’m personally think it is a waste of time and money to switch our clocks twice a year. How many man hours are wasted by exhausted employees every spring (i.e. like me right now)? Does it actually save any energy at all? How much money does the change over cost us in software updates, missed flights, missed calls and customer complaints? I assume that Bushie didn’t do any research before this was forced on us (knowing his view on science), so what was the decision based on? I think it was just a way to make Bush appear to be environmental while doing absolutely nothing. It is frustrating.
I started working on a project for the Scientist and I realized that it is nice to have something constructive to do when not at work. While this probably may have something to do with me feel I don’t do anything constructive at work it is also a way of improving myself and learning something new. I’m looking forward to finishing it up later this week, which should give me satisfaction for having completed something… another thing I don’t get at work.
Besides that, things have died down after the holidays. I’m still playing Zelda, though nearing the end. I’m still playing hockey. We are still going to have a kid. People are still using there time constructively by modifying their cars to look like A-Wings. I’m still trying to over come my incredible desire to procrastinate at work. We are still planning on going to London in 3+ weeks. People are once again looking for alternative energy sources. I wonder how much putting a geothermal heat pump into our condo would cost?
It turns out that 95% of everyone has sex before they are married. Wow is that not shocking, but it does raise a good point about the effectiveness of the abstinence based programs Bushie is forcing on everyone. If 95% are going to have sex before they are married then it is important for 95% of us to know about contraceptives (preferable before we become sexually active). Teaching sex ed is not a moral question, it is a necessity. That aside, in the article the author paraphrases Wade Horn, assistant secretary for children and families at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (who supports these abstinence based programs):
Horn said he found the high percentages of premarital sex cited in the study to be plausible, and expressed hope that society would not look askance at the small minority that chooses to remain abstinent before marriage.
Hehe. He’s asking us to not make fun of the loser who can’t get laid. Hehe. (Sorry Grue) I wonder if this is a sensitive spot for him. Ah… juvenile humor.
Two weeks ago I was feeling a bit down… not really sure if I remember why or if I knew why at the time. The Scientist tried to make me feel better by going and getting a Christmas Tree. I’m not sure if it worked at the time but it does make the living room smell nice. According to History.com “… as late as the 1840s Christmas trees were seen as pagan symbols and not accepted by most Americans.” I also find some amusement pointing out hypocrisies. Anyway, here is our tree:

On another note, when we moved into our new place we inherited a Flag. This is nice, I suppose, but it is in poor condition and I don’t want the flag police to write me up (in a newspaper article). All I can say is it is a good thing those crazy senators didn’t pass that flag burning desecration amendment, because, according to the Flag Keeper’s website, “The U.S. Flag Code states, ‘The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning’.” Now I’m sure the legislation was intended to stop people from destroying our flags (with malicious intent) but it might have interfered with people trying to destroy our flags (with a patriotic intent). Can you really have different punishments for the same action, where the only difference is intent? Our Flag:
I stopped by Wal-mart this morning and did not succeed in getting a Wii. I didn’t get up as early as I should have which was apparently 5:30 or so (the first people showed up around 2:30 this morning). Back to the phones to call each store to see when they plan on releasing more! I am a failure!
Google search ‘failure’ shows whitehouse.gov/president as the #1 result and michaelmoore.com as the #2 result. It makes me laugh what people choose to google bomb. Neither of these individuals are failures:
- assholes? #1 = yes, #2 = maybe,
- arrogant? #1 = yes, #2 = yes,
- stupid? #1 = maybe, #2 = no,
- misleading? #1 = yes, #2 = yes,
- lying? #1 = yes, #2 = maybe.
- failure? #1 = president, #2 = Oscar winning director
Dan pointed out that the Wii just came out in Japan, and now I’ll point out that the wii’s second release date was this Sunday. I’m not entirely sure why the stores horde all their shipments and the release them all at once… maybe they think it is fairer. Who knows? So this Sunday I woke up around 7, checked store hours and headed out the door.
No, I was not successful. Target gave out tickets at 7am to the 5 (5!) luck people who were first in line which started forming at 2am or so. Gah! Circuit City and Toys ‘r us both sold out just as early, and Best Buy and GameStop didn’t have any. Any thoughts on why a video game store doesn’t seem to be getting any video game systems?
Anyway, I hear Wal-mart is releasing the consoles they have on Wednesday. Do I want to go in before work and try to get one? If I do I’ll probably have to head over there around 5 or 6. I’m not camping out for longer than a couple of hours… besides it’d give me a chance to edit (write?) the paper I have due on Thursday.
Now, this amuses me to no end. iPods and Jihad… I don’t see a correlation, but what do I know?
I don’t own an iPod. I would never wear an iPod… If this is your primary focus in life - the machines… it’s going to have a staggeringly negative effect, all of this, for America… did you ever talk to these computer geeks? I mean, can you carry on a conversation with them? …I really fear for the United States because, believe me, the jihadists? They’re not playing the video games. They’re killing real people over there.

I think this is up there with the tubes thing.
