 Big Signs

October 16, 2006 at 8:42 am  |  photos

Now I could not help but laugh at this comment (though I’m not entirely sure how true it is because I’m sure most people haven’t even heard of Shea-Porter):

“We are building a network on the ground in every part of the District,” said Shea-Porter after the event. “Unlike Jeb, we have real people — not just big signs.”

God I am sick of those big signs everywhere.

 WikiMapia

September 6, 2006 at 9:58 am  |  technology, photos

I randomly came across a thing called WikiMapia this morning. It allows users to put add tags to maps (using the Google Maps API). It is a pretty neat thing and I thought I might point it out to everyone.

If you click on the box to the left of the University of New Hampshire you will find a funny comment… er, at least if you went to UNH. “Nobody knows what it does, just that a bus runs there from campus.” Also, if you scroll down and to the right towards Portsmouth you can find the NH Liquor store. Now here is a place where you can find some real useful information.

The Scientist should look at Portland.

 Running on fumes

We have been pretty much working day and night for the last two weeks (jobs and packing) and it is starting to catch up to us.  Neither of us really wanted to get out of bed this morning and I am still exhausted but tonight we are cleaning up a little bit more at the old apartment and hitting up the hardware store (energy efficient light bulbs, stain and so misc. crap).  I did actually go and take some more photos last night.  Check them out.

 Finally Full

August 9, 2006 at 1:57 pm  |  food/drink, photos

I’ve been hungry for several days but I think the combination of leftover Pizza, bread, cheese, chocolate milk and Swiss Cake Rolls.  I only had two but there are several more waiting for my stomach to empty out… mmm… debbie…

Swiss Cake, rolled

Anyway, I don’t know how many of you noticed the post from Maletas in regards to duplicating Xumbi’s beer taste adventure.  This is an interesting idea that I fully support; but it also brought to mind two three facts:

  1. we have the equipment to make beer
  2. we will soon have a place to make beer
  3. I like beer

So once we’ve moved into the new condo (assuming everything works out well) I will be making forcing Maletas and the Scientist to make me beer.  Now I have a feeling that neither of these individuals think I am capable of actually making this tasty beverage (mostly because they’ve told me several times) so I will stand aside and leave the work in their capable hands.  But what kind of beer should be made?  We made an IPA from a package last time and it came out really well.  So should we make beer using another package or venture into the world of uncertainty?

There’s not really any place close for beer brewing supplies, so I guess they must be ordered via the intertron.  Has anyone order stuff from online?  Research must be done!

Now I’m not the biggest Microsoft fan but when something is cool, something is cool. Check out this photosynth video on the Microsoft Live Labs site. It’s a new way of combining all images on the internet referencing the same location and connecting them (start with one photo and scan left or right, and zoom in… using other photos). I think just watching the video is the best way to understand what it is. I’d really like to play with it… especially if it could pull together a ton of pictures from places like the sistine chapel, the louvre or any number of places I’ve never been (or places I have been but want to show other people).

 Our First Home

August 6, 2006 at 4:58 pm  |  home, photos

We will hopefully be moving into our new place the weekend of PAX, which means we will not be able to make it to Washington to sleep on Doomfaces floor, eat his food or teach his kid how to behave inappropriately.  But for now check out some crappy pictures for our new place:

 I’m hiding

July 7, 2006 at 9:18 pm  |  photos, blog

I feeling like I am hiding out here. I wonder how many people have read my last three posts. I think you can do comments without having a login. If not, let me know. I don’t want to have to manage two sets of logins (one for my blog and one for Heidi’s), but I haven’t figured out how to finnagle that.

I added a photo gallery. I’m putting some photos up on it right now to try it out. I can’t seem to get the photos to show up. Blah. Wow I just had a crazy deja vu moment. Weird. Anyway, I may have a lot of time to work on this if Heidi will be as busy as it sounds, so may expect so big changes and I’ll try not let you down… while I will if nothing better comes along.
Crap… I really need to add a spellcheck plugin into this blog thing. I think I may have misspelled some words. Now where can I find wordpress plugins

 Washington D.C. Photos

July 6, 2006 at 12:56 pm  |  photos, blog

We’ve posted the pictures we took from our trip down to D.C.  Feel free to check them out.

On a side note, I’m thinking of using zenphoto to display our photos. [Demo Gallery]  Anyone know of any other ‘good’ and ‘free’ photo gallery software (php based)?

 Return from Tick Country

May 21, 2006 at 9:59 pm  |  sports, photos, rant

We went out to the camp this weekend to relax and do nothing but read, play the DS, drink, eat and perhap hike. Little did we know that the whole place was full of ticks. We had to check each other every time we went out to make sure they weren’t any on us. I think I brought in at least one every time I went out. It was relaxing though. It is good to get away from everything once and a while, plus we timed it so that we didn’t have to help Maletas move his shit. Ha. Tomorrow the Yanks will lose to the Sox so I’ll probably be over at his new place to watch his new roommate’s new TV.

Now I go and apply for jobs. Sigh.

Ticks are gross… though not a gross as slugs. [shudder]
How can such a lovable guy give you lime disease? Spoon!
