Carpet Diem
Yes, that is pretty bad. Anyway, the basement floor is completely done (minus putting down a threshold, which will be one day soon). The work was done over Friday night and Saturday, as I went over to my dad’s place on Sunday and helped him put in a new walkway. I’m hoping next weekend will be more relaxing… and it probably will be as the only plans we have are to drink beer. Here are a few pictures.

P.S. The cats or a cat has already pissed on our new carpet. After becoming incredible pissed off, I’m just just depressed. Those cats just shat on (er… pissed on) all our hard work. WTF. If you know of any way to keep cats from peeing on carpet, please let me know. The tiles do make it much easier to clean though, you can actual get the smell out of them!

Shooting them works fine. A plug also works. Less drastic options involve spraying your carpet with stuff that is more objectionable then piss. I have actually heard of someone electrifying the carpet so when the cat pisses the circuit is closed. Works well with toddlers too. Short of staking out the spot and providing immediate punishment, or just giving up and placing the litter box over the spot, I have just run out of bad ideas. When I was a kid we used to rub the cats nose in the offending spot, it actually seemed to work a lot of the time. If it didn’t we recycled the cat and/or dog. However, I did grow up part of the time on a farm and learned to shoot a gun and drive a car before I reached puberty. Didn’t teach me how to order in a fine restaurant so I’m still catching up on the social skills.
Carpet looks good. Addie looks good.

I know tons of ways to keep cats from pissing on carpets, unfortunately, like the other guy that has the same name as me, most of those methods involve no longer having cats…(so where’s Bono?)…
Oh, and if I haven’t already…congratulations on the baby.

drat! I am too late to offer my catpiss-prevention tip. That means it`s unanimous .. get rid of the problem at its source!

At the pet store you can get something to spray on the carpets that gets rid of the urine smell in the carpet, so the cat won’t piss there again. (I was told once that once they pee once, the smell gets in & they just keep pissing there.) My thought is once your smells get in the carpet, and the smells of the kitties… then they will stop.

Unfortunately, as you can see from the images above, the carpet was brand new. So there was no piss smell in it at all! I called our vet yesterday they said “put the offending cat on happy pills (after coming in a giving the cat a full check up)”. That’s supposed to change the behavior, but this is a stupid solution.
The potential solutions are as such,
This is really something that we don’t want to deal with now. We already have enough stuff going on and cleaning and re-cleaning carpet tiles is time consuming and depressing.

Channel flipping last night came up with vinegar to eliminate the odor of dog and cat piss, or worse, in a carpet. It was the weird British ladies that wander around and clean places on TV that would be better off being nuked. I assume they have tried it on spots that would make Itty’s look like a spring shower. Apparently in one of there houses the women had 30 cats who did not go outside, and they did not have a litter box. That was the add on another day. Take that Itty.
Cat nip works pretty good as a cat mode enhancer. Dope them up for a week and see if their mode improves and it only cost a few dollars. The worse that comes out of this is Itty has more fun pissing. Nothing like cat piss to get people blogging.
