Thanks. It sounds like our speed. The guidebook I'm reading says the north shore is better in the winter and the south shore is better in the summer, while the west shore's night life consists of finding a bright light and watching the geckos eat mosquitoes. It has twenty pages on where to stay, fifty pages on beaches and hiking trails and one page on the night life.
The companion book we consulted on Hawaii was dead on.

I am trying to find a way to spend two weeks in Alaska for a reasonable price and still actually see something.
I think it will be a challenge. I'm shooting for the shoulder season, late May, for three reasons: people are actually happy to have you there (and your money) after the long winter, the weather is better on average than September, and its cheaper than summer. The odds are good of feeling one or more earthquakes when ever you go. Alaska gets 10% of the worlds earthquakes.

I hope you are both feeling better. I'm off to pet the cat.

I stayed at what used to be the Radisson. [Map]. Don't stay there, it was cold and rainy much of the time. It has something to do with being on the east side of the mountain. If I had to stay on Kauai again (I think I'd try a different island... it was kind of dull there), I'd probably stay on the north side. The east is rainy, the west is dry but the north is lush, green and beautiful.

That sucks. Being sick that is.
We bought "Little Miss Sunshine" for New Years. I was shocked it was really funny and worth watching.
Downloaded a new SuDoku game. It's good for killing 10 minutes here and there.
Looking to go to Alaska this summer but Kauai looks mighty interesting.
Where did you stay?
