What do stupid aviation security rules and an iDildo have in common?

August 11, 2006 at 10:11 am  |  travel, comics/humor, politics, technology, rant

I’m sure all of you have seen/read something about the British government saving our citizens from terrorist attacks. And I’m sure you’ve seen our federal governments response (i.e. Banning all liquids in carry-on baggage… including toothpaste). Awesome, I almost never check a bag because getting your bag off the carousel adds hours onto your flight (there is nothing like standing in a airport lobby at 1am waiting for your luggage and wondering if you’ll fall asleep on the drive home). So now I can’t bring toothpaste, shampoo, shaving cream, or even water. Tis pretty annoying, if you ask me. But what really gets my goat is that no one is really taking this ban seriously. If they were would they be doing this? Seriously. I really hope terrorist don’t start using book bombs… the movies they show on planes are awful!

An accessory for all you ladies… it’ll go well with your Barry White CD. Um… This does remind me of the accessory that came out with the game REZ.

Answer: You are still allowed to bring your OhMiBod onto a plane… but no lubricant.

 Finally Full

I’ve been hungry for several days but I think the combination of leftover Pizza, bread, cheese, chocolate milk and Swiss Cake Rolls.  I only had two but there are several more waiting for my stomach to empty out… mmm… debbie…

Swiss Cake, rolled

Anyway, I don’t know how many of you noticed the post from Maletas in regards to duplicating Xumbi’s beer taste adventure.  This is an interesting idea that I fully support; but it also brought to mind two three facts:

  1. we have the equipment to make beer
  2. we will soon have a place to make beer
  3. I like beer

So once we’ve moved into the new condo (assuming everything works out well) I will be making forcing Maletas and the Scientist to make me beer.  Now I have a feeling that neither of these individuals think I am capable of actually making this tasty beverage (mostly because they’ve told me several times) so I will stand aside and leave the work in their capable hands.  But what kind of beer should be made?  We made an IPA from a package last time and it came out really well.  So should we make beer using another package or venture into the world of uncertainty?

There’s not really any place close for beer brewing supplies, so I guess they must be ordered via the intertron.  Has anyone order stuff from online?  Research must be done!

Now I’m not the biggest Microsoft fan but when something is cool, something is cool. Check out this photosynth video on the Microsoft Live Labs site. It’s a new way of combining all images on the internet referencing the same location and connecting them (start with one photo and scan left or right, and zoom in… using other photos). I think just watching the video is the best way to understand what it is. I’d really like to play with it… especially if it could pull together a ton of pictures from places like the sistine chapel, the louvre or any number of places I’ve never been (or places I have been but want to show other people).

 Our First Home

We will hopefully be moving into our new place the weekend of PAX, which means we will not be able to make it to Washington to sleep on Doomfaces floor, eat his food or teach his kid how to behave inappropriately.  But for now check out some crappy pictures for our new place:

 Apply directly to your forehead

August 2, 2006 at 8:07 pm  |  comics/humor, video, rant

Okay, if you watch Jeopardy on UPN38 you may have seen this ad for HeadOn.

“HeadOn… Apply Directly to the forehead.”

It is annoy as hell, because they repeat the catch phrase over and over and over again. Blah! It gives you a headache, which I guess is their way of making people want their product. Watch this one… it doesn’t give you a headache.

“HeadOn… Apply Directly to the forehead.”

Or if you are French Football fans.

“HeadOn… Apply Directly to the forehead.”

Like I said in the previous post we made an offer and it was accepted. The place we are going to buy is a condo/townhouse in a small but really nice development about 2 to 2.5 miles outside of downtown. It is not as close to downtown as I would have liked but it is still in walking distance to the disc golf course and it is closer to my work (which means I should bike in more often or take the bus).

The place is pretty darn big with a loft in the master bedroom and a small patio area out back. Plus, the previous (current?) owners put a lot of work into it and finished part of the basement, put in granite countertops and new appliances. I’ll put up pictures as soon as I take some.

We are hoping to move in by the end of this month (rush, rush, rush), which means we need to get the mortgage stuff done tonight, get the building inspected tomorrow, stain some furniture, de-wallpaper and paint some walls, and possibly replace some carpet and buy more furniture (it is significantly bigger than our current place).

On a side note, Jeff, Heidi and I will be making Jambalaya tonight while Jeff and I do some coding on side, moneymaking venture. This could be a chance to make some easy (much needed) cash and boost up the old resume.

After a long search (1 week) we found a place we like (it happened to be the second we looked at) and made an offer. It was accepted right away so maybe we should have offered less. Now comes the fun part…
