Here is a quote from a book on war in the South Pacific. Its probably sums up our ability to put up with a lot and to complain when we have it pretty good. "We went topside for air and a look-see. Guadalcanal was fading in the distance and from the ship it looked like a beautiful tropical island instead of the hell hole that it actually was. Someone said, "What's that strange smell?" The man was dead serious. Someone else answered, "That's fresh, clean air, you dumb bastard.""
